        <Description>&lt;p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 10pt"&gt;&lt;font face="verdana,arial,helvetica,sans-serif" color="#000000"&gt;Speak of archaeology and most in the western world think of &lt;country-region w:st="on" /&gt;Israel&lt;/country-region /&gt;, with &lt;city w:st="on" /&gt;&lt;place w:st="on" /&gt;Jerusalem&lt;/place /&gt;&lt;/city /&gt; at its center.&lt;span style="mso-spacerun: yes"&gt;&amp;nbsp; &lt;/span&gt;That&amp;rsquo;s the result of cultural attachments through the religion(s) we have inherited.&lt;/font&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 10pt"&gt;&lt;font face="verdana,arial,helvetica,sans-serif" color="#000000"&gt;A fascinating study of archaeology in this area is presented by &lt;personname w:st="on" /&gt;&lt;givenname w:st="on" /&gt;Raphael&lt;/givenname /&gt; &lt;sn w:st="on" /&gt;Greenberg&lt;/sn /&gt;&lt;/personname /&gt; in the latest &lt;i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal"&gt;&lt;a href="http://www.jewishquarterly.org/article.asp?articleid=325"&gt;Jewish Quarterly&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/i&gt; and is worth a read.&lt;span style="mso-spacerun: yes"&gt;&amp;nbsp; &lt;/span&gt;Greenberg examines the history and motivation of the pursuit of archaeology and concludes by asking whether archaeology could contribute to peace in &lt;city w:st="on" /&gt;&lt;place w:st="on" /&gt;Jerusalem&lt;/place /&gt;&lt;/city /&gt;?&lt;span style="mso-spacerun: yes"&gt;&amp;nbsp; &lt;/span&gt;To this end he makes some suggestions.&lt;/font&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 10pt"&gt;&lt;font color="#000000"&gt;&lt;a href="http://www.tau.ac.il/humanities/archaeology/directory/dir_rafi_greenberg.html"&gt;Greenberg&lt;/a&gt; has been involved in archaeology in Jerusalem since the 1970's.&amp;nbsp; He has worked for the Israel Antiquities Authority and is a Senior Lecturer at Tel Aviv University.&lt;/font&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 10pt"&gt;&lt;font face="verdana,arial,helvetica,sans-serif" color="#000000"&gt;My suggestion &amp;ndash; the whole article is worth a read.&lt;/font&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 10pt"&gt;&lt;font color="#000000"&gt;&lt;/font&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 10pt"&gt;&lt;font color="#000000"&gt;H/T to &lt;a href="http://www.claudemariottini.com/blog/2008/02/archaeology-and-politics.html"&gt;Claude Mariottini&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/font&gt;&lt;/p&gt;</Description>
